When to Water Indoor Plants

Water pressure within the plant tissue causes “turgor,” which is the ability of the plant to stay erect.  As the plant uses its water, the leaves and stems become a little less erect.  Mastering the art of watering takes practice, and errors cause plants to fall victim to water stress syndrome (too much one week, too little the next).

When a plant’s leaves feel cool and firm to the touch, it is good.  If the soil is dry and the plant’s leaves feel soft and warm, the plant may be ready to be watered.
