The genus name Antherium is derived from two Greek words meaning “tail flower.” There are over 600 species of Antherium in a wide variety of forms.  Generally, they have heart shaped leaves up to 12 inches across and 20 inches long.  Like orchids, Antherium can be either terrestrial or epiphytic.

Columbia, Guatemala, Costa Rica

Maintenance Tips

Pick off yellowed leaves.  Fertilize lightly during the growing season.

Place in indirect or filtered light.

Pests and Problems

Spider mites, mealybugs, and thrips. Subject to crown rot in overly moist conditions.  Requires moist air.  Try to avoid wide fluctuations of moisture levels when temperatures are high.  Avoid cold or drafty areas.
