Calathea is a beautiful foliage plant because of its velvety leaves and contrasting colorations. The name comes from the Greek work for “basket.” They belong to the prayer plant family, Marantaceae.

Maintenance Tips
Calatheas like air movement which tends to increase their leaf size.
Low humidity and too bright light will cause leaf burn. Never place plant in direct sunlight.
Try to water in the middle of the day to prevent leaf spot disease and fluoride injury. Water thoroughly then discard drainage. Never allow this plant to sit in water.
Pests and Problems
Burrowing nematodes, spider mites, mealybugs, and scale. Leaf spot, blight. Root rot will occur when plant is kept too wet. Soluble salt buildup may cause root rot in this plant.
