Clivia

Clivia, Kaffir lily
Clivia miniata
Light Level: High
Water Level: Medium
Clivia miniata is a member of the Amaryllis family. It is named after Charlotte Clive, Duchess of Northumberland, who developed it as an indoor plant in 1866. It is a winter blooming plant. Ornamental red berries form after flowers fade in late spring.
Country of Origin
England. French and Belgian hybrids produce yellow to deep red-orange flowers.
Maintenance Tips
Crowded roots that are left undisturbed for years produce the best blooms. Remove yellowed leaves. Fertilize only when actively growing, that is, from January through August.
Provide at least 4 hours of filtered sunlight, or medium to low light.
Keep moist during growth and flowering; at other times, allow to dry between waterings.
Pests and Problems
Crown rot will occur if it is planted too deeply, watered over the crown, or watered and left to sit in water.
