This plant comes from the hot, dry hills and mountains of the Mediterranean Sea basin. The name Chamaerops comes from the Greek word meaning “ground bush” for its low shape in the wild. It has fan-shaped leaves and multiple trunks which are rough and black and grow at an angle from the container.

Maintenance Tips
Remove spent fronds at the base of the stem. When pruning, watch out for the thorns at the base of each frond.
Fertilize lightly when new growth emerges in the wintertime.
Do not spray with leaf shine or other cleaning products; such products will remove the plant’s natural “fuzzy appearance”.
Pests and Problems
Mealy bug and scale. Watch for mites if plant is in low humidity.
