The Zamifolia is in the Aroid family, along with the Dieffenbachia and Aglaonema.  Its name comes from the similarity of the foliage to the cycad Zamia. The Z Z plant has thick, fleshy leaves that have a natural gloss to them.  The plant stores water in its underground tubers.  This is a tough plant that tolerates low light well and infrequent waterings.  If this plant is placed in a high light situation, it will need more frequent watering.

Black spots will appear on leaves if plant is exposed to cold temperatures.

Pests and Problems

Because of its tough leaves, this plant is resistant to most pests.

Root rot and stem rot will occur if plant is overwatered or allowed to sit in water.
